Ferradura Beach is one of the calmest and most family-friendly beaches in Búzios. Its distinctive horseshoe shape protects the bay from wind and strong currents, creating gentle waters, fine light-colored sand and excellent conditions for swimming. With about 1.5 km of shoreline, it’s ideal for relaxed beach days.
Why the water is so calm
The closed bay works as a natural barrier against the open ocean, keeping waves small and currents weak most of the year. Even on windy days elsewhere in Búzios, Ferradura usually remains safe and comfortable for swimming.
Things to do
- Swimming in calm, shallow water
- Pedal boats, popular with families
- Kayaking and stand-up paddle
- Snorkeling near rocky edges
- Long walks along the wide beach
Facilities
Ferradura has good beach infrastructure, with kiosks, beachfront restaurants, and nearby hotels and guesthouses. Car access is easy, with drop-off points close to the sand, making it convenient for visitors with children or reduced mobility.
Nearby Ferradurinha
Next to Ferradura lies Ferradurinha Beach, a small and very scenic cove known for clear water and natural pools. The usual access is by a short walking trail from the left side of Geribá Beach. While close, the two beaches offer different experiences: Ferradura is spacious and relaxed; Ferradurinha is compact and more crowded.
Best time to visit
Ferradura works well year-round. Mornings are especially calm, while afternoons remain pleasant even when other beaches get windy. During peak season it gets busier, but the long shoreline helps spread visitors out.
