The summer season in Búzios (December to March) is the busiest and liveliest time of year. Knowing what to expect helps you make the most of it without being caught off guard.
Crowds and beaches
The most popular beaches — such as João Fernandes, Ferradura, and Geriba — fill up on weekends and holidays. Arrive early (before 9 am) to secure a good spot. More remote beaches like Praia Brava or Praia do Forno are quieter options, even in peak season.
Peak season prices
In summer, guesthouses, restaurants, and tours charge more. Expect to pay 40–80% more than in the off-season. Avoid the last two weeks of December and the first week of January for slightly lower rates.
Traffic and logistics
Access to Búzios via RJ-102 is congested on Friday evenings and Sunday returns. If possible, travel on Thursday or early Saturday. The municipality operates an internal bus service (Búzios Bus) connecting the main beaches.
Must-do activities in summer
A sunset schooner cruise, a party on Orla Bardot, night diving in João Fernandes, and stand-up paddle lessons on calm beaches are the season’s highlights.
